Recap: Edgewood Mustangs vs. Greencastle Tiger Cubs
The Edgewood Mustangs were the 41-39 winner over the Greencastle Tiger Cubs when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Edgewood took a 55-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Greencastle on Saturday. Edgewood has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Edgewood's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carl Norris, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamren Ranard, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Edgewood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greencastle only pulled down an offensive rebound.
Greencastle found their leader in underclassman Sam Gooch, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Gooch is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Connor Sullivan, who scored ten points.
Edgewood's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Greencastle, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Edgewood will face off against Bedford North Lawrence at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Bedford North Lawrence's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matchups. Greencastle will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Tri-West Hendricks at 7:30 p.m. on January 27th. Tri-West Hendricks presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Greencastle in Indiana (Tri-West Hendricks is ranked 78th, while Greencastle is ranked 211th).
