Baseball Game Preview: Carrier Mills-Stonefort Wildcats vs. Vienna Eagles

The Carrier Mills-Stonefort Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the Vienna Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Carrier Mills-Stonefort has given up an average of 10.1 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Carrier Mills-Stonefort came up short against Gallatin County on Tuesday, falling 16-1. The Wildcats have struggled against the Hawks recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

Meanwhile, Vienna fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Johnston City on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Jackson Ethridge put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

Ethridge wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Trace Moore, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI.

Carrier Mills-Stonefort's record now sits at 2-6. As for Vienna, their record is now 8-6.

Carrier Mills-Stonefort might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Vienna when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
