Basketball Recap: Woodward Polar Bears vs. Steinbrenner Warriors
Woodward was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 71-56 bruising from the Steinbrenner Warriors. Even if the Polar Bears couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their offense, which had struggled int the games prior.
Steinbrenner was led to victory by Riley Aulls and Douglas Jordan. Aulls went 8 of 13 en route to 24 points and five rebounds, while Jordan went 7 of 12 on his way to 20 points and five rebounds. Those 24 points gave Aulls a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cayden Simmons, who posted nine points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Woodward's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Steinbrenner, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-10.
Woodward wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 72-29 defeat against Ross on the 27th. As for Steinbrenner, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Tarpon Springs at 5:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Steinbrenner has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
