Basketball Preview: Florence Gophers vs. San Tan Foothills Sabercats
Florence is 9-1 against the Sabercats since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Florence Gophers will look to defend their home court against the San Tan Foothills Sabercats at 7:00 p.m. Florence is out to stop a five-game streak of losses at home.
Last Friday, Florence was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to the Falcons.
Defeat or not, Florence got some senior leadership from Keylee Scarbrough and E.c. Turk-francis. Scarbrough scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Turk-francis. scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Scarbrough is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Farmer, who scored six points along with five assists.
Meanwhile, San Tan Foothills had to endure a nine-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victor by a 51-27 margin over Globe. The victory was just what San Tan Foothills needed coming off of a 45-12 defeat in their prior contest.
Florence has not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season. As for San Tan Foothills, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-17.
Everything went Florence's way against the Sabercats when the teams last played back in January as the Gophers made off with a 67-47 victory. Will Florence repeat their success, or do the Sabercats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
