Volleyball Recap: Lake Norman Starts Season with Loss at Home

Lake Norman unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Maiden Blue Devils by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Lake Norman wouldn't go down easily and took Maiden into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-21, 22-25, 21-25, 17-15.

Lake Norman's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordin Smith, who had 22 digs. The team also got some help courtesy of Alayna Lefebvre, who had 17 digs.

The victory got Maiden back to even at 1-1.

Looking ahead, Lake Norman will be playing in front of their home fans against Ardrey Kell at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Maiden, they will square off against Bunker Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
