Basketball Recap: Piedmont Academy Continues Home Dominance on Wednesday

Piedmont Academy had won 16 straight home games dating back to last season and Marissa Holder did her part to make it 17 on Wednesday. The Piedmont Academy Cougars breezed by the Mount de Sales Academy Cavaliers to the tune of 77-40 thanks in part to Holder, who shot 9-for-16 from deep and dropped a double-double on 38 points and 14 boards. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Piedmont Academy's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Whitwell, who posted eight points. She also put up a block, which washer first of the season.

Piedmont Academy is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Mount de Sales Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season.

Piedmont Academy will head out to challenge Stratford Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Piedmont Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 contests -- so hopefully Stratford Academy likes a good challenge. As for Mount de Sales Academy, they will face off against Tattnall Square Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
