Softball Recap: Joliet West Comes Up Short

Joliet West extended their losing streak to nine on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 2-18 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 13-12 heartbreaker at the hands of the St. Charles East Fighting Saints. That's two games in a row now that the Tigers have lost by just one run.

As for St. Charles East, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-12. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games.

For St. Charles East's part, Kyli Dunn looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Dunn has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Caleigh Higgins and Hayden Sujack did most of the damage at the plate: Higgins went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Sujack went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those four RBI gave Higgins a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Holly Smith, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Coming up, Joliet West will head out to face off against Minooka at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for St. Charles East, they will venture away from home to take on Glenbard North at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Fighting Saints' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
