Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Stoughton). Their defense stepped up to hand the Portage Warriors an 8-0 shutout on Tuesday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering Stoughton's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin soccer rankings (they are ranked 107th, while Portage are ranked 267th).

The victory made it two in a row for Stoughton and bumps their season record up to 6-4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those two matches. As for Portage, their record now sits at 0-11.

Coming up, Stoughton will be playing at home against Edgewood at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Edgewood's defense has only allowed 0.4 goals per game this season, so Stoughton's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Portage, they will head out to take on Wisconsin Heights at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
