Baseball Recap: City View Sets Scoring Season-High Against Legacy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask City View). Everything went their way against the Legacy Leopards on Tuesday as the City View Mustangs made off with a 19-4 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Brendon Hawkins made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hawkins was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colton Barnett, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of City View's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-7 when he doesn't). Austin Mitchell also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

City View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. The last time their OBP was this high was since the start of last season.

City View pushed their record up to 7-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.7 runs. As for Legacy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. City View will head out to challenge Windthorst at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Legacy, they will venture away from home to face off against Wylie at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Legacy has given up an average of 7.9 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
