Softball Recap: Bonanza Takes a Loss

Bonanza had lost five straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 4-11 to make it six. They came up short against the Spring Valley Grizzlies, falling 16-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Grizzlies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 on April 9th.

As for Spring Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. The result was nothing new for Spring Valley, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

For Spring Valley's part, Cheyenne Stephens-Davis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Stephens-Davis was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Spring Valley got a massive performance out of Aubreyana Sanchez, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles Sanchez has posted since back in March of 2024. Isabella Lenahan was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bonanza will host Eldorado at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Firehawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.84 runs per game on average), something the Bengals will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Spring Valley, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Sierra Vista at 3:30 p.m. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mountain Lions have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
