Basketball Recap: Berry Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Berry faced off against Brilliant on Tuesday. The Berry Wildcats were dealt a 72-41 loss at the hands of the Brilliant Tigers. The defeat continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now lost nine in a row.

Berry's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maggie Mauldin, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Mauldin has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kryssa Fields, who posted nine points in addition to seven boards and five blocks.

Brilliant's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hadlee Sanderson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 31 points and 17 rebounds. Brooklyn Omary was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 17 points and nine steals.

Berry's defeat dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Brilliant, their record now sits at 19-10.

Berry has already played their next game, a 58-32 win against Pickens Academy on the 30th. As for Brilliant, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-44 victory against Hackleburg on the 1st.
