Basketball Recap: Cummings Cavaliers vs. Northwood Chargers
Cummings lost against Northwood back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Cummings Cavaliers took a blow against the Northwood Chargers, falling 63-32. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 440th, while the Chargers are ranked 43rd).
Cummings' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Victor Crisp, who posted eight points. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Long, who had five points and five rebounds.
Northwood was led to victory by Cam Fowler and Beau Harvey. Fowler went 6 of 12 on his way to 20 points in addition to six boards and five assists, while Harvey went 7 of 10 on his way to 14 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Fowler has been hot for a while, having posted 16 or more points the last 11 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayes Burleson, who put up ten points.
Cummings has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Northwood, their record is now 12-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cummings will square off against North Moore at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Northwood, they will challenge Seaforth at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Northwood's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
