Basketball Recap: Highland Hawks vs. Higley Knights

If Highland was riding high fresh off their 77-56 takedown of Queen Creek last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Highland Hawks took a 61-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Higley Knights. The Hawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Knights earlier this season, when they won 65-45.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Higley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Donovan Dabney, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten boards. That's the most points Dabney has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Dabney, who had 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds.

Highland's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 14-9. As for Higley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.

Highland and Higley should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings. Highland (ranked 28th) will meet Desert Ridge (ranked 123rd) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Highland will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak. Similarly, Higley will face off against Gilbert at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 86 places (12 vs. 98). Highland is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
