Baseball Recap: Wildwood Wins Going Away Against Penns Grove

Wildwood was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Penns Grove on Monday. The Warriors were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Red Devils. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Nolan Mawhinney was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, RJ Blanda was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Lysander Laureano also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Wildwood has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Penns Grove, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wildwood will venture away from home to face off against Bridgeton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.32 runs per game on average), something the Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Penns Grove, they will challenge Overbrook at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
