Softball Recap: Nease Takes a Loss

Nease fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Middleburg on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Broncos by a score of 4-3. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Broncos: they've now lost six in a row.

Sydney Davis spent all 8.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alanna Doherty and Kristina Campbell stepped up to the plate in a big way. Doherty went 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs, while Campbell went 1-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. That home run was Doherty's first of the season.

Nease's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Middleburg, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Nease will take on Bishop Snyder at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cardinals have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season. As for Middleburg, they will face off against Columbia at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
