Basketball Recap: Belen Takes a Loss

Belen lost against Gallup back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Belen Eagles took a blow against the Gallup Bengals, falling 81-42. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Bengals are ranked fourth).

Belen's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dani Bob, who posted 12 points. Alyssa Trujillo was another key player, putting up 11 points and six steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Belen and nudges their season record down to 7-10. As for Gallup, they pushed their record up to 15-0 with the win, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season.

Belen didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 51-39 defeat against Albuquerque Academy on the 18th. Gallup has also already played their next match, an 81-29 victory against Grants on the 18th.
