Recap: Organ Mountain Knights vs. Carlsbad Cavemen

The Organ Mountain Knights came tearing into Friday's matchup with 11 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They snuck past Carlsbad with a 51-45 victory. Given Organ Mountain's advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Carlsbad is ranked 31st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Organ Mountain's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brandon Kehres, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Kehres is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of YehNhi Wilson, who scored 11 points along with five assists and three steals.

Organ Mountain pushed their record up to 13-1 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.7 points per game. As for Carlsbad, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-8.

Organ Mountain won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Cibola at 4:00 p.m. on January 20th. Carlsbad won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Centennial at 3:30 p.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Centennial focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Thursday.
