Basketball Recap: Mt. Vernon Comes Up Short

Mt. Vernon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 14th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against the Edgewood Mustangs, falling 54-32. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 363rd, while the Mustangs are ranked 106th).

Despite the loss, Mt. Vernon still got an impressive performance from Hannah McNeece, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 10 points. That's the most points McNeece has posted since back in November of 2023.

Allison Bland continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Edgewood, going 7 of 15 on her way to 16 points in addition to six boards and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Macey Crider, who posted 12 points and seven rebounds.

Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 0-13. As for Edgewood, their record is now 10-3.

Mt. Vernon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 32-28 defeat against Eastern Greene on the 27th. As for Edgewood, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 38-28 loss against Orleans on the 27th.
