Soccer Recap: Venice Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Braden River, Venice was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They never let the Gulf Coast Sharks onto the board and left with a 2-0 win. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while the Sharks are ranked 295th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Venice now has a winning record of 5-4-3. As for Gulf Coast, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10-1 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Venice and North Port will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 6, 2025. As for Gulf Coast, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Palmetto Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2025.
