Baseball Recap: Lanier Comes Up Short

Lanier came into this matchup off a tough seven-run loss last Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Gainesville Red Elephants by a score of 6-4 on Wednesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Longhorns in their meetings with the Red Elephants: they've now lost three in a row.

Lanier got a good showing from Noah Norton, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time Norton hasn't allowed a single hit since back in February.

On the hitting side, Nicholas Sampona was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Vincenzo Prigge also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Lanier's loss dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Gainesville, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-11.

While Lanier had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
