Softball Recap: Central Catholic Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Win

Central Catholic had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the St. Catherine of Siena Academy Athletes a 10-0 shutout. The Fighting Irish might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Ella Schuberg made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over 5.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Central Catholic let Milla Bragg and Mackenzie Coleman run wild. Bragg went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Coleman went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBI. That's the most hits Coleman has posted since back in April. Maeley Bragg was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.

Central Catholic's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for St. Catherine of Siena Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Central Catholic will face off against Clay at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for St. Catherine of Siena Academy, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Walled Lake Western at 4:30 p.m. on the 22nd.
