Baseball Recap: ABF Academy Triumphs

After losing to Boca Raton the last time they met, ABF Academy decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. ABF Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Boca Raton on Tuesday, sneaking past 5-4. That's two games straight that the Cowboys have won by just one run.

Gian Luigi Ospina made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of ABF Academy's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 3-1 (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Ospina was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other pitching news, ABF Academy got a great performance from Ariel Rivera as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Rivera has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Jose Perozo was excellent, scoring a run and stealing four bases while going 1-for-3. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Bravo, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-2.

ABF Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. Boca Raton's defeat dropped their record down to 3-14.

ABF Academy is on the road again on Wednesday to play Flanagan at 2:00 p.m. As for Boca Raton, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Boca Raton Bobcats take on King's Academy Lions at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Their pitchers better be ready for this one: King's Academy has averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
