Basketball Recap: North Charleston Snaps Nine-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

North Charleston lost against Orangeburg-Wilkinson two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The North Charleston Cougars took a 62-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Orangeburg-Wilkinson Bruins. While the Cougars didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bruins 17-11 in the first quarter.

Marco Simpson and Richard Hazel III certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Simpson went 7 of 17 on his way to 21 points, while Hazel III went 5 for 10 en route to 14 points and eight rebounds. Hazel III has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Marcus Simmons, who posted five points.

Orangeburg-Wilkinson can attribute much of their success to Jordan McGahee, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave McGahee a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mark Jamison, who earned 14 points.

North Charleston's defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-8. As for Orangeburg-Wilkinson, their victory bumped their record up to 15-5.

North Charleston wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, an 81-27 win against Hanahan on the 31st. As for Orangeburg-Wilkinson, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-32 victory against Battery Creek on the 31st.
