Baseball Game Preview: Struthers Wildcats vs. Lakeview Bulldogs

Struthers is 1-9 against Lakeview since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. Struthers will look to defend their home field against Lakeview at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

After dropping their season opener at home, Lakeview is headed out to face a Wildcats team ready to give their home crowd a win. Struthers fell just short of McDonald by a score of 12-10 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Wildcats have suffered since April 19, 2024.

Eddie Bradley made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of JR Hovanec, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Lakeview made easy work of Ursuline on Saturday and carried off a 12-3 victory.

Jacob Shaker and Brandon Toot were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Shaker tossed 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Toot pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Shaker scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Toot scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Lakeview got a big performance out of Jozef Kuchcinski, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Eli Gough was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Lakeview kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ursuline only managed five hits.

Struthers might still be hurting after the 14-1 loss they got from Lakeview in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Struthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
