The Roswell Coyotes will challenge the Centennial Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last four games Roswell has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Roswell saw some tournament action on Saturday. They skirted past Lovington 8-7.
Davian Dominguez and Elias Lujan did most of the damage at the plate: Dominguez scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Lujan scored a run while going 1-for-2. Savino Sanchez also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Roswell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Centennial fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Carlsbad on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cavemen/Cavegirls by a score of 8-7. The Hawks have struggled against the Cavemen/Cavegirls recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Isreal Molina was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Gilberto Torres was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Mateo Marquez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Roswell's win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Centennial, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Roswell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
