Preview: Athens Wildcats vs. Sayre Redskins
After three games on the road, Athens is heading back home. They will take on the Sayre Redskins at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Athens focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Monday.
Even though Williamson scored an imposing 61 points, Athens still came out on top. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, Athens made off with a 62-61 win over Williamson.
Athens' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Connor Mosher, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Nick Robbins, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Sayre suffered their biggest defeat since December 1, 2023 on Monday. Their rough 61-38 defeat to Mansfield might stick with them for a while. Sayre was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-18.
Athens' win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Sayre, they bumped their record down to 5-6 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Athens was able to grind out a solid victory over Sayre in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, winning 71-58. Will Athens repeat their success, or does Sayre have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
