Baseball Game Preview: Great Valley Patriots vs. Coatesville Red Raiders

The Great Valley Patriots will take on the Coatesville Red Raiders at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Great Valley comes in on three and Coatesville on eight.

While Great Valley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over Sun Valley on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won three matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Ty Callahan made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single hit and allowed only two earned runs while striking out ten over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Brady Hounsell was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Ryan Spiess, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Coatesville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over Downingtown West.

Coatesville's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.25 runs across that stretch. As for Great Valley, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
