Softball Recap: Vallejo Redhawks vs. Swett Warriors
Vallejo fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Swett on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 15-14. The Redhawks haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Se'Maj McFarland and Demya Castain stepped up to the plate in a big way. McFarland scored three runs while going 3-for-4, while Castain scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Roxanna Villareal, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Even though they lost, Vallejo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. This was only their first loss (out of four games) when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Vallejo now has a losing record of 3-4-1. As for Swett, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-1.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Vallejo will square off against rival Hercules at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Swett is set to take on their familiar foe El Cerrito at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Swett has won four straight at home dating back to last season, while El Cerrito won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
