Baseball Game Preview: Metea Valley Mustangs vs. Benet Academy Redwings

The Metea Valley Mustangs will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Benet Academy Redwings at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Tuesday, Metea Valley made easy work of Joliet Central and carried off a 15-2 victory. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by exactly 13 runs.

Metea Valley got a great performance from Tyler Shafer as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Tyler Gluting was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Connor Lavery was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Metea Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Joliet Central only posted an OBP of .333.

Meanwhile, Benet Academy had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell just short of Oswego by a score of 12-11 on Tuesday.

Metea Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Benet Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, sneaking past 6-5. Will Metea Valley repeat their success, or does Benet Academy has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
