Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wewahitchka). They blew past the Vernon Yellowjackets 18-11 on Thursday. The Gators not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 27th (when they won 12-0).
Jayla Clayton was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Aubry Bailey was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Wewahitchka kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 8.8.
Wewahitchka's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-16. As for Vernon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-14.
