Preview: Spring Creek Spartans vs. Elko Indians
Spring Creek has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They and the Elko Indians will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Spring Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Spring Creek was beaten by Fernley 66-26. Spring Creek was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-11.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Delilah Bautista, who scored four points along with three steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played.
Elko can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Dayton 54-21 at home. The win was just what Elko needed coming off of a 59-28 loss in their prior match.
Spring Creek has not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Elko, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-12.
Spring Creek skirted past Elko 31-29 when the teams last played back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Spring Creek since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
