Basketball Recap: Sumner Extends Winning Streak to Three

Sumner waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They snuck past the Spanaway Lake Sentinels with a 65-61 win. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while the Sentinels are ranked 253rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why Spanaway Lake lost, don't look at Darius Alexander. Despite the final result, he posted 28 points. That's the most points Alexander has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Demond Louis, who earned ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Sumner is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.6 points per game. As for Spanaway Lake, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7.

When Sumner and Spanaway Lake next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Sumner will try to stop Olympia's four-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
