Softball Recap: Nine Straight Road Victories for Matanzas

While Matanzas's win against Beachside wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Pirates beat the Barracudas on Thursday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 3-1. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Barracudas recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

LEAH STEVENS spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 20 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Matanzas' win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was MCKENZIE MANHART, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Matanzas' victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Beachside, they moved to 14-7 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Matanzas will host West Nassau at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Beachside, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Yulee at 6:00 p.m. The Hornets' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Barracudas' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
