Lanphier came into Thursday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Springfield Southeast Spartans on Thursday, sneaking past 2-1. The game was the first time the Lions have beaten the Spartans on their court since October 25, 2021.

Lanphier had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The final score came out to 19-25, 25-20, 25-19.

Miley Frakes paced Lanphier's offense, picking up six kills. Frakes got some help from Elizabeth Powell and her nine assists. Frakes was also a major player on defense: she and Angel Price shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with four each.

Despite the loss, Springfield Southeast saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Josey Grant had 16 digs and two assists.

Lanphier's victory bumped their record up to 6-21. As for Springfield Southeast, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-18.

Lanphier has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 loss against East St. Louis on the 10th. As for Springfield Southeast, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 defeat against Rochester on the 14th.
