Volleyball Recap: Lanphier's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Lanphier hadn't done well against Springfield Southeast recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Lions had just enough and edged out the Spartans 2-1. This was a revenge game for the Lions: when they faced off against the Spartans two weeks ago, they had to take a 2-0 defeat.

Lanphier had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The final score came out to 19-25, 25-20, 25-19.

Miley Frakes paced Lanphier's offense, picking up six kills. Frakes got some help from Elizabeth Powell and her nine assists. Frakes was also a major player on defense: she and Angel Price shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with four each.

Despite the loss, Springfield Southeast saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Josey Grant had 16 digs and two assists.

Lanphier's win ended a five-match drought on the road and puts them at 6-21. As for Springfield Southeast, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season.

Lanphier will square off against East St. Louis at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Springfield Southeast, they will face off against Rochester at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
