Recap: Garland Owls vs. South Garland Titans
The Garland Owls came into Friday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victor by a 65-41 margin over South Garland. Given Garland's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 555th, while South Garland is ranked 1299th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Garland found their leader in underclassman Caleb Ibeneme, who scored 17 points along with two steals. It was the first time this season that Ibeneme grabbed two or more steals. Another player making a difference was Musa Ndow, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
South Garland lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jakyron Howard, who scored ten points along with two steals. Elijah Darden was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Garland's win bumped their record up to 9-10. As for South Garland, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-24.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Garland will take on North Garland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Garland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday. As for South Garland, they will head out on the road to square off against Wylie at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Garland is coming into the matchup with eight straight defeats on the road, meaning Wylie will have to defend against a team hungry for a win.
