Basketball Recap: Chloe Webb's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fuquay - Varina over Athens Drive

If Fuquay - Varina was feeling good fresh off their 60-27 takedown of Sanderson last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Fuquay - Varina Bengals fell to the Athens Drive Jaguars 35-30. The Bengals have struggled against the Jaguars recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Several Bengals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chloe Webb, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 13 points and eight rebounds. Webb is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games. Abigail Meaney was another key player, putting up three points along with 12 rebounds and four steals.

Athens Drive's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kianna Gulley, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 14 points and seven steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Gulley has scored at least a third of Athens Drive's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenzie Kelly, who posted eight points and five steals.

Fuquay - Varina's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Athens Drive, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Fuquay - Varina didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-35 loss against Green Level on the 9th. As for Athens Drive, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 56-41 victory against Cleveland on the 10th.
