Football Recap: Red Springs Starts Season with Victory Against Anson

Red Springs gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They skirted past the Anson Bearcats 32-30. The win was all the more spectacular given the Red Devils' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 354th, while the Bearcats are ranked 170th).

Chase Boone went supernova, throwing for 337 yards and five TDs while picking up 16.0 yards per attempt. Those 337 passing yards gave him a new career-high.

Despite the loss, Anson still got an impressive performance from Cordarrius Bivens, who rushed for 200 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 11.1 yards per carry, and also picked up 58 receiving yards. Bivens showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 58 yards. Tasean Harris helped out on the ground, rushing for 81 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Coming up, Red Springs will take on Pender at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Anson, they will challenge Montgomery Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
