Centralia wins going away against Mt. Vernon

Recap: Centralia Orphans vs. Mt. Vernon Rams

The Centralia Orphans put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Mt. Vernon with a sharp 57-35 victory. The result was nothing new for Centralia, who have now won three matchups by 22 points or more so far this season.

Despite the loss, Mt. Vernon still got an impressive performance from Navontae Nesbit Jr., who scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds. Nesbit Jr. scored a full 42.9% of Mt. Vernon's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cale Mauer, who scored 7 points.

Centralia's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Mt. Vernon, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Centralia won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Mattoon at 7:30 p.m. on December 2nd. One thing working in Mattoon's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches. As for Mt. Vernon, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Mascoutah at 7:00 p.m. Mascoutah will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 215th, while Mt. Vernon is ranked 59th).
