Volleyball Recap: Marquette Takes Down Ranked St. Dominic

Marquette faced St. Dominic in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Mustangs blew past the Crusaders 3-0. The Mustangs were shut out 3-0 the last time they took on the Crusaders, so the Mustangs were just returning the favor.

While Marquette won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the first set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 27-25, 25-15, 25-19.

Danaya Petkova paced Marquette's offense, picking up 13 kills. Petkova got some help from Maggie Smith and her 18 assists. Teagan Pocius controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Despite the loss, St. Dominic still got an impressive performance from Addison Burroughs, who had five digs and three aces.

Marquette's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-15. As for St. Dominic, their loss dropped their record down to 21-8-2.

Marquette has already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against Jackson on the 14th. As for St. Dominic, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Incarnate Word Academy on the 17th.
