Softball Recap: Ashley Screaming Eagle vs. West Brunswick Trojans
Ashley had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 3-8 to make it ten. They lost 11-5 to the West Brunswick Trojans. The Screaming Eagle were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.
Saylor Cross and Taryn Wayland stepped up to the plate in a big way. Cross went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run, while Wayland got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.
As for West Brunswick, their record now sits at 8-3. Considering they have won four games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
On West Brunswick's side, Olivia Brown was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Brown was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one double. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Pressley Wilson and Paisley Wilson did most of the damage at the plate: Pressley got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI and one run, while Paisley went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base was Paisley's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kady Long, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Coming up, Ashley will head out to square off against Hoggard at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Brunswick, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lumberton at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season.
