Baseball Recap: Whiting Takes a Loss

If Whiting was riding high fresh off their 16-3 takedown of Calumet New Tech on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Oilers fell just short of the Calumet Christian Patriots by a score of 9-7 on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Oilers of the 12-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Alex Rodriguez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those hits marked the first that he has got this season. Angelus De La Cerda was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Whiting has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. As for Calumet Christian, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-4.

Whiting wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 16-4 loss against Wheeler on the 25th. As for Calumet Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 19-5 victory against Hammond Central on the 26th.
