Basketball Recap: York Dukes vs. Crete Cardinals
The York Dukes were the 41-30 winner over the Crete Cardinals when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. York fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 38-36. York has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Several Dukes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lainey Portwine, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Portwine has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Murfee Nickels, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
York now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Crete, their win bumped their record up to 10-7.
York will be playing at home against the at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Elkhorn North presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Dukes in Nebraska (the are ranked second, while the Dukes are ranked 85th). As for Crete, they will head out on the road to take on the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Schuyler is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
