Baseball Game Preview: St. John's Prep Johnnies vs. Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Thunder

St. John's Prep hasn't had much luck against Long Prairie-Grey Eagle recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Johnnies will welcome the Thunder at 1:00 p.m. St. John's Prep has given up an average of 13 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Upsala/Swanville hit St. John's Prep with a eight-run second inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Johnnies came up short against the Patriots, falling 16-5.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Long Prairie-Grey Eagle). They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over Benson on Tuesday. The Thunder haven't had any issues with Benson recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Zairel Gonzalez was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Hagen Brunkhorst, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles.

Long Prairie-Grey Eagle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Long Prairie-Grey Eagle's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for St. John's Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

St. John's Prep might still be hurting after the 22-4 loss they got from Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Can the Johnnies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
