League recap: South rises, Great Neck North falls in league standings

Section 8 Freelance league recap: 5/7/12

South made the biggest jump in the standings this week, moving from sixth to fourth place in the league thanks to a 1-0 record over the past seven days. Meanwhile, Great Neck North fell hardest in the standings, dropping from third all the way to sixth place after going 0-1 in the past week. First-place Valley Stream North (9-4, 2-0) went 0-2 over the past week.

Plainedge (7-5, 3-0) has won four games in a row, the league's longest active win streak. In the past week, the Red Devils won another 3 games, includinga 9-1 victory over Lawrence and a 13-2 win over Lawrence.

Roosevelt's pitching staff dominated this week, allowing only 22 hits and 10 walks, both of which led the league. The Roughriders have given up a mere 132 hits on the year in addition to compiling 110 strikeouts. Allan Villeda is the leader in that category with 46 Ks on the season.
