Basketball Game Preview: Riverside Pirates vs. Covington Buccs

The Riverside Pirates will head out to face off against the Covington Buccs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Riverside will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Miami East, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Riverside narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Miami East 44-42. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since December 8, 2023.

Newton Local typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Covington proved too difficult a challenge. They had just enough and edged the Indians out 40-37. The Buccs didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this win makes it their second in a row.

Covington's victory bumped their record up to 6-14. As for Riverside, their win bumped their record up to 5-14.

Riverside didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Covington when the teams last played back in January, but they still walked away with a 59-54 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Riverside since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
