Softball Preview: Winfield Warriors vs. Liberty Blue Jays
The Winfield Warriors have the luxury of staying home for another game and will welcome the Liberty Blue Jays at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
On Tuesday, Winfield made easy work of St. Charles West and carried off a 17-2 win.
Olivia Vancleve made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Vancleve was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Winfield got a massive performance out of Isabel Reinebach, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Reinebach is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in the last three games she's played dating back to last season. Claire Shoemake was another key player, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, a triple, and a run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Liberty). Everything went their way against Lee's Summit North on Thursday as Liberty made off with a 7-1 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Blue Jays have posted since September 13, 2023.
Winfield now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Liberty, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
