Preview: Mayer Wildcats vs. Red Mesa Redskins
Mayer is 0-3 against Red Mesa since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The two teams will round out the year against one another at 2:00 p.m. at. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Mayer struggled with assists last Friday (San Pasqual Valley had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Mayer was beaten by San Pasqual Valley 61-29. Mayer has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The losing side was boosted by Danni McCann, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. She scored a full 62.1% of Mayer's points, the 13th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Red Mesa unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 39-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of Many Farms. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Red Mesa has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Red Mesa got a solid performance out of Daleni Nakai, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Shyla Pipkin, who scored two points along with 13 rebounds.

Mayer's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5-1. As for Red Mesa, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3.
Wednesday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Mayer have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 36.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Red Mesa, though, as they've been averaging only 34.1 rebounds per game. Given Mayer's sizeable advantage in that area, Red Mesa will need to find a way to close that gap.
Mayer was dealt a bruising 61-34 loss at the hands of Red Mesa when the teams last played back in December of 2019. Can Mayer avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
