Basketball Game Preview: Salina Central Mustangs vs. Valley Center Hornets

After both having extra time off, the Salina Central Mustangs and the Valley Center Hornets will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Salina Central is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Newton just ended the team's three-game winning streak last Friday. The game between them and the Railroaders didn't end well, with Salina Central falling 67-52.

Meanwhile, Valley Center is still undefeated this season after their contest against South last Friday, but South came as close as anyone has to beating them. Valley Center narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past South 51-48. While the Hornets didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Salina Central better keep an eye on Doc Needham. He was instrumental in Valley Center's win, going 6 of 11 on his way to 15 points along with six assists and six steals. Those six steals gave Needham a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Colby J Newton, who posted seven points in addition to six assists and five steals.

Salina Central's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Valley Center, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.

Salina Central couldn't quite finish off Valley Center in their previous matchup back in February and fell 67-64. Can Salina Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
