Basketball Preview: Economedes Jaguars vs. Edinburg North Cougars
Economedes is 2-8 against the Cougars since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Economedes Jaguars will look to defend their home court against the Edinburg North Cougars at 7:30 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Economedes has struggled recently with eight defeats in a row, while the Cougars will arrive with eight straight wins.
Last Friday, Economedes ended up a good deal behind the Coyotes and lost 72-54. Economedes has not had much luck with the Coyotes recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Nathaniel De La Garza put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 23 points along with three steals. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jesus Medrano, who scored six points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Edinburg North can now show off 14 landslide victories after their most recent match on Tuesday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 74-41 win over Pharr-San Juan-Alamo. Given Edinburg North's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 258th, while the Bears are ranked 1417th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Economedes has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-18 record this season. As for Edinburg North, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 26-8 record this season.
Economedes was taken down by the Cougars 76-46 in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Edinburg North's Josiah Cruz, who scored 20 points along with five assists and four steals.
